A few seconds of the dish being plated says more than three lines of menu copy. Diners scroll dishes as autoplaying clips, the way they already scroll their phone.

Built for a phone at the table
The diner is holding a phone in one hand, often on mobile data, and decides in under a minute. So every tap target is thumb-sized, nothing depends on hovering, and a video that has not loaded yet shows a still frame or text — never a blank space or a spinner.
The owner is usually the only person who touches the menu, often from a phone behind the counter. Labels are written in plain restaurant English, empty screens always offer the next step, and there is one single way to add a restaurant. Accuracy stays with the restaurant: prices and allergens are theirs, so the product shows exactly what diners will see and never changes published content on its own.
How Vimus runs
Vimus is a React 19 application with a MySQL database and media storage, running as a Docker stack on infrastructure Takat operates, like every product we ship. Menu import combines PDF and web-page extraction with an AI model; subscriptions are built on Stripe. Both the GDPR and South Africa's POPIA apply to Vimus, and its consent and marketing wording is written with both in mind.

Do diners need to download an app to see a video menu?
No. The QR code on the table opens the menu in the phone's browser. There is no app to install and no account or login for the diner.
Can Vimus import my existing menu?

What if I do not have a video for every dish?
