Mama Bot · WhatsApp companion for new mothers

An answer at 3 a.m. for new mothers.

Mama Bot is our WhatsApp companion for the weeks after birth. A mother writes in the middle of the night about feeding, sleep or her own recovery and gets a calm, clear answer in the language she wrote in — and a clear prompt to call a professional when something sounds urgent.

Help where she already is

  1. No new app

New parents do not install software at 3 a.m. They open the app they already use every day and write a message.

  2. It remembers

What a mother shares — her baby's age, how feeding is going, what worried her yesterday — is kept, so she does not repeat herself.

  3. It knows its limits

Mama Bot does not replace a midwife or a doctor. When a message sounds urgent, it says so plainly and the conversation is flagged.

How it works

A model with three careful tools

Each message goes to a Claude model that answers in the mother's language and can use three tools: save what it learns about her and her baby to a profile, add a note to follow up later, and flag a conversation as urgent. Messages, notes and events are stored in a PostgreSQL database on a server Takat operates — not in a third-party chatbot platform.

Before every reply the model sees her profile, the baby's exact age and its own notes, so advice fits the real day: day-3 advice is not week-6 advice. On first contact it introduces itself and says clearly that it is not a healthcare professional.

The design choice that matters most is the tone: short, warm answers without jargon, one question at a time, and no pretending to be a clinician. It never diagnoses, never prescribes and never gives medication doses.

  • Warning signs for the mother or the baby — a fever, heavy bleeding, trouble breathing, a baby refusing to feed — get a calm, direct answer: call the local emergency number now, and the number for her country is given.
  • Low mood that lasts is taken seriously: she is encouraged to talk to her midwife or doctor.
  • Real-world support is part of the answer: the midwife, the paediatrician, breastfeeding groups, the co-parent and her circle.
What comes next

From pilot to a service others can offer

The pilot is there to learn from real mothers: which questions come back, where the answers help, where they fall short. If it proves useful, the same companion can be offered by maternity services, healthcare providers or NGOs to the families they already follow, in more languages and more countries.

If you work with new parents and want to explore it, a discovery call is the place to start.
